Having been selling and shopping online for over 10 years we have found that it is sometimes difficult locating certain postcards, so we finally decided to put together a nice store where every card has a category and you the customer can easily find the cards that you are interested in.
Online vintage postcard shopping is fun and enables you to access thousands of cards all neatly categorized in a relatively short period of time. However, unlike buying a postcard in person, on line buying has its limitations, mainly not being able to inspect the card before you purchase. Our cards are scanned 150% both front and back for your viewing inspection. Genealogists have requested family names so we try to include names and addresses to help those interested in finding their ancestors.
We know how special these tiny treasures are to you, Each post card is shipped safely protected in a rigid postcard holder surrounded by card stock.
Each order is double checked for accuracy and all postcards are normally shipped within 24 hours of payment.
About Us But Mainly About Me
I grew up in a typical 1950’s pink ranch style 3 bedroom home in Davenport, Iowa. Faux Stone Veneer trim in the front, awning with a large S indicating our last name and a basement with knotty pine paneling and decorated with turquoise furniture. That pretty much explains why I was and still am fascinated with old American architecture.
Davenport, Iowa back in the 1950's was a treasure trove of old interesting buildings all leading down to the Mississippi River. It is hard to believe for the younger generation and especially in this day and age, but as a child my younger sister and I would hop a bus and go downtown on our own to discover the sights and sounds which might interest a young person. This freedom allowed us to see our town through the eyes of a child which no doubt was brighter and more exciting than the actual reality.
We would ride the old ornate gated elevators with the elderly gentleman at the helm making sure we arrived at the proper floor. Enjoyed the beautiful murals on the ceiling before the movies at the RKO and Capitol Theatres, studied at the dignified Carnegie library which was long ago torn down. Some days we would just go "hang out" down at the levee and watch the tows, tugs and riverboats travel up and down the Mississippi River.
As time went by and nostalgic thoughts entered my middle ages, I decided it might be nice to have a few souvenirs of my old hometown. The Internet was starting to become the best resource for collectibles and a quick search for items related to Davenport, Iowa resulted in hundreds if not thousands of products.
Postcards were the perfect choice, inexpensive, with an excellent selection of subjects and time periods, I became enchanted! As my quest for these cards grew so did my collection, first hundreds then thousands. I began selling on the internet in 2001 thinking I would be able to "just" dispose of my extra cards, instead I discovered providing postcard memories for others a very delightful way to spend my day!
Today my little Internet adventure has turned into a family business with my husband in charge of shipping and my daughter specializing in product acquisitions. Together we make sure every customer receives the top notch service they deserve and a pleasant shopping experience.
