Back of Card:
The Red Buttes are located near the top of the Continental Divide, and extend for many miles on both sides of the Divide. One of the most interesting things in connection with these Buttes is the fact that the top of them was at one time the bottom of the sea, oyster shells in large quantities have been found there. A short distance from where this view was made is Fort Wingate, which was built in the early times when the Navahos were on the warpath. Thomas Moran, the artist, says that these cliffs always remind him of fairy land.
