Hundreds of lights glow on one of man's great engineering achievements linking lower Michigan with the Upper Penninsula. Some of the many interesting statistics compiled on the Bridge show the total length of the Bridge to be five miles. The length of the Main Span (between main towers) is 3,800 ft. the main towers rise 552 ft. above water; the roadway is 199 ft. above water and the maximum depth of water at midspan is 295 ft. The bridge was opened to traffic in November 1957.
