The Governor's Mansion is a three-story white house of twenty-eight rooms, built of superior brick masonry, and located on a beautiful knoll in the heart of Springfield. The mansion has been the home of the Governors of the State of Illinois and a center of Springfield's social life since 1856.
Lincoln watched the erection of the mansion and, in company with Mrs. Lincoln, attended several large parties there.
