Three of the highest of San Francisco's many hills lie in the northeastern section. Overlooking the Bay, westward from Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill, so-named, because in the city's early days near the crest was a burying ground for Russian sailors. Many of San Francisco's artists and writers live in this section.
