The Old Cathedral, on Walnut Street, between Second and Third Streets, St. Louis. Consecrated in October, 1834, this was the first cathedral church completed west of the Mississippi River. Since Oct. 18, 1914, it has been the Church of St. Louis of France. Pope Gregory conferred favors on it granted no other church in the world except the Basilicas in Rome. It stands on the site of the first mass ever to be held in St. Louis, Missouri.
