Raphael Sanzio, the celebrated painter, was born at Urbino in 1483, died 1520. his subjects ere mostly scriptural, and his masterpieces are the "Modonna Sixtina" in the Dresden Gallery - the most valuable painting in the world, and the "Madonna Ansidei," in the National Gallery, London, which cost the nation 70,000.
